“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
fit2change works with clients in varied ways to help them challenge their eating disorder, supporting them to make worthwhile change in areas including:
- Achieving specific goals; living a more valued existence
- Challenging eating disordered patterns and behaviours
- Understanding and managing emotions; developing new ways of coping
- Improving feelings of self-worth, self-image and body esteem
- Keeping up motivation; dealing with setbacks
- Managing stressful day to day experiences; overcoming social anxieties
Each client’s needs and difficulties are met with an individualised plan, which is always focused on achieving their goals, allowing them to progress at their own pace, and building on each success in pursuit of what is truly important to them.
Following comprehensive assessment, clients work with one, or more members of the fit2change team to identify the most suitable approach to help meet their needs and achieve their goals, together agreeing the direction of the work to be undertaken.
Using various tools to stay in touch, clients can access support easily. Services are flexible, and can be co-ordinated to enable the client to carry on with the other aspects of their lives.
Clients can also access other elements of the service, giving them the opportunity to work on their eating difficulties, while managing their weight, health, fitness and feelings, whilst always retaining control of the process.
When you need us most
Clients with an eating disorder can often feel ambivalent about recovery; they want life to be different, but are unsure about leaving behind the security and familiarity of their illness. Despite the destructive nature of anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorders, much like an addiction, they can be very hard to let go of.
“I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing that I hate”
Fit2change recognises that there are times when your motivation will be low; at these points we will hold the goal of your recovery for you, supporting you to turn setbacks into opportunities for learning, and strengthening your resolve for the future.
Staying in control
Getting treatment can leave a person feeling that they have lost the last bit of control over their lives. With fit2change, there’s no “one size fits all” approach to treatment. We provide support, education and guidance specific to the client, also ensuring they remain in full control of any decision making, and the direction of work.
Unsure of your next step?
If you are uncertain about the help you need, or about getting in touch, maybe consider some self-help to start with. The books below are highly recommended by fit2change, and working through one of them may help you to decide whether you need extra support.
